December 21-  Regents' Scholarship (Application become available online November 21) - Seniors All Regents' Scholarship application materials are due by December 21, 2010 (to meet the priority deadline) or February 1, 2012 (to meet the final deadline). December 31 Hubbard’s Writers - Grades 9-12. Entries must be original works in English. All types of science fiction, fantasy, and horror with fantastic elements are welcome. Prizes from $500-$1,000, awarded quarterly Apply online

December 31 - Hubbard's Illustrators - Grades 9-12  Open to new science fiction and fantasy artists.  All judging is done by professional artists.  Cash grant of $500 each quarter.  Apply online

December 31 - American Legion Oratorical Contest -  Grades 9-12Competition to demonstrate knowledge of the U.S. Constitution.  Give an approximate 8 minute oration.  Request information online

December 31 - High School Inovator of the Year -  Seniors.  This scholarship recognizes students who have invented something noteworthy or improved a process that affects their fellow students, city, or community during their high school years.  Request information online

January 1 National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship – Seniors Min. 3.0 GPA, pursuing degree at an accredited institution. Must support preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting, sports, academics, leadership, and community involvement and be a NWTF member. January 5- Visionary Scholarship ProgramFreshman, Sophomores, and Juniors encourages an early start in planning for college.  Apply online

January 5  - American Legion Oratorical Contest  - Grades 9-12  present a prepared oration (8-10 minutes in length) on an aspect of the Constitution of the United States with an emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government.  Or talk (3-5 minutes in length) on an assigned topic from the list posted on  Competition held at 6:30 pm in the Orem City Chambers

January 13 - Society of American Military Engineers -Seniors The Great Basin Post of the Society of American Military Engineers invites high school seniors who are going to pursue an Engineering degree to apply.  Award amount $1800 Apply online 

January 13th Sign up for the -ACT Test to be given February 11. Sign up by 01/13/12 to avoid $21 late fee. You can still sign up until Jan 21 with a late fee.  The ACT is a required test for college admission and some scholarships.  Register online at  Cost is $33 for ACT without writing portion.  (BYU is recommending taking the writing portion but it is not required)  Fee waivers are available for those on free or reduced lunch. Our school code is 450-283.

January 7 - United States JCI Senate Scholarship – Seniors Financial contribution of applicant towards their own college education is an important consideration. Leadership positions and offices, memberships, honors and awards, and employment also considered. $1,000 grant used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. January 7 - Alliance for Young Artists and Writers - Seniors -  Scholarship is awarded based on winning a competition based on submitted work.  Several categories are offered.  Apply online

January 7 - John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest – Grades 9-12 Write an essay no more than 1,000 words. Essays must describe how an elected official demonstrated political courage by addressing an issue at the local, state, or national level. $500-$5,000 Rules and application are available online

January 9 -ACLU Youth Activist Scholar – Senior  three $1,000 scholarships to eligible high school seniors who have demonstrated a strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism. Min. 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is applied toward their college education. $1,000 Apply online

January 10 – Army ROTC Scholarships - Seniors-Based on Leadership, scholarship, and extracurricular activities.   Apply online

January 9 - Weber State University Scholarship Deadline- Seniors Ogden, Utah Scholarships will be awarded based on grade point average and the date when the scholarship application is submitted. Since there are more students applying for scholarships than there are available funds, the earlier you apply the more competitive you will be in receiving a scholarship.  Check the website for more details and for a list of available scholarships.

January 10 - Burger King Scholarship- Seniors who have 2.5 GPA or higher, who will enroll full-time in an accredited school for the entire 2011-2012 year.  Go online to apply and for more information  

January 11 - Gates Millennium Scholarship - Seniors A scholarship established by Bill Gates for students that are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American and a citizen/legal permanent resident of the US.  GPA 3.3.  Have demonstrated leadership abilities and participated in community service, extracurricular or other service.  Scholarships are renewable for five years at any US accredited college of their choice. January 14 – Asian Pacific Islander Organizations Scholarship - Seniors Students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. Award amounts range between $2,500 - $5,000 to over 200 first-year college students.  Information and applications are on available online

January 13 – National Multiple Sclerosis Society (Utah State Chapter) – Seniors Scholarships begin at $1000. Any student with multiple sclerosis or is a child of someone with MS. Applications online

January 15 – SAE Engineering Scholarships – Seniors who plan on enrolling in an engineering or computer science major program. There are many scholarships offered through this foundation. Check the website for the many scholarships and approved school programs. $1,000-$10,000 Apply online

January 15- Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship – Seniors who are U.S. citizens and are planning careers of service to the United  States in local, state, or federal government.   A one page essay, letters of recommendation, and SAT/ACT scores are required. Four scholarships worth $1,000 to $20,000, also other special awards.

January 15-Utah Elks Association Alternative/Vocational/Special Needs Scholarship - Seniors For students that are pursing a vocation or has special needs. Apply online under Youth Program/Scholarships   scroll down to application and instructions-PDF file.

January 15 - Phi Delta Kappa International Scholarship – Seniors who intended college major is education. Judged on academic standing, essay, letters of recommendation, school activity and community service. Award range $1,000-$5,000. Apply online Must be a PDK member, a child/grandchild of a member, or have letter of recommendation written by a Kappan.

January 15 - Create-A-Greeting Card Contest - Grades 9-12 Applications are now available online or mail-in submission of design. One $10,000 prize awarded.

January 15 - Education Is Freedom, - Seniors $2,000 scholarships for students who have shown academic promise and leadership, but whose families cannot afford tuition and whose grades do not qualify them for traditional scholarship programs. Apply online at

January 16 -National Honor Society Scholarship - Seniors The National Honor Society Scholarship program is a nomination process. Students cannot apply but must be nominated through their high school National Honor Society chapter. Nomination forms cannot be sent to students or parents but must be obtained through the high school NHS Chapter Adviser. If you are a high school senior, a member in good standing of your school's National Honor Society chapter, and wish to be considered for nomination, contact your local high school NHS Chapter Adviser. January 26  - Wildcat Welcome Day  - Senior  with an admissions index score of 105 or above, come from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm or 4:30 – 6:30 pm to get and accept a scholarship offer to Weber State University.  Take a guided tour, explore majors and programs at WSU, and get questions answered.  You must first fill out the application online at, pay $30 application fee, and submit Transcripts and ACT/SAT scores. 

January 28 - Ronald McDonald Scholarships Program – Seniors Scholarships given by Ronald McDonald Charities. 4 different scholarships available for scholars, Asian, African-American, and Hacer (Hispanic/Latino) minimum 2.7 GPA

January 30 - ACT Poster Concept Contest - Open to high school students. ACT wants to encourage students to tap into their creativity and possibly qualify for scholarship through the national ACT Poster Contest.  Awards range for $1,000 to $5,000.  Information and applications online

January 30 - Utah Association of Educational Office Professionals ScholarshipSeniors Offered to students planning a business office type career. Please read application thoroughly. Award amount $500.  Apply online

January 31 –Navy-Marine ROTC Scholarships – Seniors Based on Leadership, scholarship, and extracurricular activities.  Award amount includes: Tuition, book allowance, fees, plus monthly stipend. Up to $180,000 Apply online

January 31 – McKelvey Foundation ScholarshipSeniors Scholarship not based on academic achievement or financial need.  Applicant must own and operate a genuine business for at least one year, non-profits are eligible.  Have at least one paid employee. January 31 – Papa John’s Scholarship- Seniors  for students with a 2.5 GPA. Students that are motivated to continue their education.

January 31 - BSA Eagle Scout – Senior Boys  For Eagle Scouts who are graduating and entering college the year of application min. ACT score of 28, leadership in scouting. January 31 - Sam Walton Community Scholarship -  Seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA and have taken the ACT or SAT, has financial need, must be a full time freshman fall 2011, and be a US citizen or permanent resident.  Cannot be a Wal-Mart Associate or the dependent of one.  Must be submitted online by 5:00 pm central time.  One time $3,000 Scholarship.  Apply online

February 1 - Society of Exploration Geophysicists Scholarship Program - Seniors- Students with interest in and aptitude for Physics,  Mathematics, and Geology, who intend to pursue a career in exploration Geophysics or a closely related field such as physics, geology or earth or environmental science.  A student in need of financial assistance will be  considered; however, the competence of the student is given first consideration. Awards range  $500-$14,000 per year.

February 2 - Toshiba/NSTA Exploravision Awards -Grades 7-12 Teams of 2 to 4 science students work together to explore the background of a present day invention, how it works and its impact. Teams are also asked to predict what the invention they have chosen will be like 20 years from now. Award amount U.S. savings bonds–First Place $10,000; Second Place $5,000. Up to 50 percent will be targeted to ethnic minority or disabled students. Scholarship based on past academic performance, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, career aspirations and unusual personal or family circumstances. March 1 - Symantec Software Scholarship –Grades 9 - 12 Scholarship will be awarded at the regional science fair in March. Applicant needs to create and enter a science project that involves computer software into a regional Utah science fair. Award $10,000 Apply online

March 1 - U of U-Thatcher Company Scholarship in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering –Seniors - four year, full tuition plus books beginning his or her freshman year at the University of Utah and majoring in chemistry or pre-chemical engineering.  Must maintain 3.0 GPA.

March 1 -Dream Weber (Weber State University) Seniors Dream Weber is a program that provides free tuition to students whose annual household income is $25,000 or less.  The program uses a combination of federal and state financial aid and money given to the University from generous donors.  The purpose of the program is to help individuals complete a college degree. March 1 - U of U ACCESS – Senior Girls Interested in science or mathematics, attend 7 week summer course designed to introduce students to the university level of science and mathematics. Comes with a $3500 award that doesn't conflict with other merit scholarships. Apply online

March 1 - NSPE Scholarship -Seniors to Promote Diversity in Engineering is awarded annually to a high school senior from an ethnic minority who has been accepted into an ABET-accredited engineering program at a four-year college or university. The scholarship is awarded in two disbursements of $2,500 each at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters of the freshman year. Apply online

March 4 - Mountain America Scholarship/UPEA (Utah Public Employee Association)- Seniors The Utah Public Employees' Association is currently accepting applications for the following scholarship:  Three- $1,000 scholarships sponsored by Mountain America Credit Union.  You must be a member of both MACU and UPEA.  Applications my be mailed, faxed or hand delivered to the UPEA office.  Applications available online: 

ACT Test Sign up by 3/4/2011 to avoid $21 late fee Seniors and juniors-Required test for college admission and some scholarships. Test will be given April 9, Cost is $32 for ACT without writing portion.  (No colleges in Utah require the writing portion)  Fee waivers are available for those on free or reduced lunch. 

March 5  - Uof U 2011 Bioscience High School Summer Research Program  - Juniors and Seniors  who are interested in Biology Research.  From June 13 to Aug. 5 receive a two week intensive laboratory course then spend six weeks working with a research biologist at the University.  A small stipend of $500 is provided.  See Mrs. Shipp in counseling for an application.

March 7  - SUU’s Governor’s Honor Academy  - Juniors - who are leaders and scholars are invited to attend a ten-day program from June 22- July 1, 2011 at Southern Utah University.  Those who do attend will receive a 4 year scholarship to SUU.  Leadership conference worth 6 college credits - Cost is $900.  Information and application online:

 March 12 - US Bank Internet Scholarship Program - Seniors-Us Bank will award up to thirty $1.000 scholarships.  Must attend an accredited two or four year college in the fall.  Recipients are selected through random drawing. Apply online

March 14 - Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards –Seniors Many youth awards available to apply for: Academic, Community, Engineering & Mathematics, Healthcare, Journalism, or Sports. Register online and create an account number to be put on all paperwork submitted. Apply online

March 15  -  Joe Rhoads Scholarship - Seniors who plan to major in engineering at an accredited program in Utah, who got at least 30 in math, and a 26 in English on the ACT.  $1,000 award.  Application online

March 15 - Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship(ages 6-18)Available to students who have contributed to the community by performing volunteer services. Students must be nominated online from 2/1/10 to 3/15/10.   Apply online

March 25 – Robert C. Byrd Scholarship - Seniors from the Utah State Office of Education. Open field of study to a college/university of choice. Min. GPA 3.7 min. ACT 25 $1,500 scholarship for the first year, may be renewable. Information and application online 

March 28 - T.H. Bell Career Teaching Loan/Scholarship – Seniors from the Utah State Office of Education for those pursuing a teaching degree with plans to teach in Utah public schools for a term equal to the number of years for which the loan was received. Four-year full tuition available. Once the student teaches in Utah then the loan is forgiven. Application online   or see Mr. Walker in the counseling office.

March 29  - QuestBridge-- Juniors Provides awards that equip outstanding low-income high school juniors with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to top-ranked colleges. All expenses paid for college summer school programs, conference, campus visits. Individualized college admissions counseling is also available.  Apply online

March 31 - Janice M Scott Memorial Scholarship FundSeniors  This scholarship is awarded in honor of Mrs. Janice Marie Scott who was a victim of the attacks by terrorists on September 11, 2001. She was among the 125 individuals that were killed in the Pentagon when terrorists took over and crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into that building on the morning of September 11, 2001. As a result, the family members of Mrs. Scott created the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund in October 2001 to honor her legacy. There are six $2,500 scholarship and one $20,000 scholarship for academic excellence. Required qualification/eligibility: US citizen or permanent resident; GPA 2.5 or higher; High School Seniors who must matriculate at a US accredited four-year college or university full time during the 20010-2011 School Year; Demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extra curricular or other activities.  Application available online

 March 31 - Truman D. Picard Scholarship (Native American or Alaskan Natives)  – Seniors You must be pursuing an education in natural resources to qualify. To be considered for the award, you must submit a letter of application (no more than two pages in length) demonstrating the following: interest in natural resources; commitment to education and community/culture; academic merit; and financial need. To apply, the award also requires that you submit a resume, three letters of reference and validated enrollment in a federally recognized tribe or Native Alaska corporation as established by the U.S. government. If you are a high school senior, you will also need to provide documented proof of application to an institution of higher education for study in the area of natural resources.
